ingredients
My goal is to incorporate and highlight as many local ingredients as possible. Grains grown and milled in Minnesota and Wisconsin make up the bulk of my breads and baked goods. Local herbs, produce, syrups and oils are what I'm reaching for most as I mix and bake. Of course, some of my ingredients come from afar, but I always try to choose brands I feel happy to support.
Garden Grown: In addition to buying local I like to prioritize hyper-local herbs and produce - grown directly in our garden! We are grateful to have space to plant and grow in our front and backyard in Crystal, MN. We dry herbs & flowers (such as sage, thyme, rosemary, dill, marigold, nasturtium, rose, shiso, tarragon, oregano, basil, bee balm, anise hyssop, mint) as well as tomatoes and apples. When in season we will use peppers (sweet and hot!), chives, tomatoes, apples, fresh herbs, and whatever veggies (like kale!) and fruits (like grapes and plums!) that are doing well in the garden, or from friends and neighbors who share with us. Alongside baking, gardening with friends and family is my favorite activity.
